The 8848 Altitude company originated in a project that was set up to provide equipment for the the first succesful Swedish ascent to Mount Everest in 1990. The results from this project were retained in the first collections, and have been improved on constantly.

The 1990's brought about a wide plethora of advanced laminated fabrics that have changed the way outdoor garments are constructed and perceived. Advanced pattern-making and garment construction have proven increasingly important as membrane-based fabrics have become widely available. Control over the design and manufacturing processes are thus vital for companies in the outdoor sector today. Therefore, 8848 Altitude insists on designing products and manufacturing prototypes in the same studio.

Outdoor athletes used to expect some level of discomfort in harsh (and adverse) conditions. This is not always the case today. Breathable materials are becoming more and comfortable, meaning that they are soft as well as functioning in a wide range of temperatures and climatic conditions. Still, a garment functions only as well as it has been constructed. The know-how of how to utilise the properties of today's advanced materials is an integral part of the 8848 Altitude company. In fact, this know-how is the company.
